The yard has been a manic place over the last couple of weeks with
the run upto the Derby, photographer, journalists, radio and TV crews
have flocked to get involved with Libertarian which made our first crack
at the classic even more exciting! The preparation went well and we
were all roaring him home on the day. We were ecstatic to have come with
a late run and take second position in the final strides, it was a
tactical affair and the stop start pace didn't suit our lad as he is a
big rangy galloper who would have preferred a good pace the whole way.
Nonetheless we just finished second in the DERBY and the excitement of
things to come has kept the yard and staff buzzing. It is likely he will
be supplemented for the Irish Derby but we wont know for sure until
later in the month.
Not forgetting our other runners which there haven't
been to many as we have had alot of non runners due to the ground
drying up so fast at some courses but this suited SPYKES BAY who got
back to winning ways at Carlisle under our apprentice Michael Metcalfe
at his first attempt over five furlongs.
HAY DUDE ran a good race in defeat in fourth position in a hot race
at Doncaster and Angels Calling was fourth at Carlisle where the ground
was a little to fast and the draw didn't help her.
We now look forward to Royal Ascot
starting next week.
