QUIET REFLECTION did us proud again...
Tue, July 12, 2016
QUIET REFLECTION did us proud again to finish a very respectable third in the Darley July Cup behind Limato. The ground dried up to Good to firm ground and this was the first time she had encountered these types of fast conditions but she dug deep and stuck to it to beat some world class sprinters. She is defiantly a better filly with some give under foot and she will now have a few weeks break as she has had a few quick races before starting her preparations for an Autumn campaign.
AZZIR lands the apprentice handicap under a well judged ride from our apprentice Clifford Lee, Clifford has gone from strength to strength since joining us and we are really pleased with his improvement he is an apprentice with a bright future ahead of him.
RIVIERE ARGENTEE won under Ben Curtis on the second time of asking enjoying the rain softened ground and the uphill climb at Carlisle. She is a French bred filly who qualifies for the French premiums so could head out to France to take advantage of that in the near future.
USED TO BE ran a solid race second time out at Doncaster stepped up in trip to six furlongs, he chased home an impressive well regarded winner so there looks more to come from him.
WINGS OF ESTEEM was narrowly touched off on her final start for us at Yarmouth she then headed to the sale where she was purchased for £18,000 we wish her new connections luck with her.
TAHOO may be small physically but she has plenty of guts and determination and ran a great race as rank outsider in a York nursery under Joey Haynes to finish second beating a Listed winner.
BAIE D'AMOUR finished second at Hamilton not being able to quite peg back the leader, she should improve with a step up in trip and better ground.
YOUARTISONFIRE gets his head back in front
Tue, July 5, 2016
YOUARTISONFIRE gets his head back in front winning the Claimer at Doncaster in the hands of Jordan Vaughan. He is one of the yards old favourites we have had him since a yearling and he has done us proud with six wins to his name including some valuable handicaps so it was great to see him get his head back in front.
EXPLOSIVE POWER also got his head back in front for the first time this year when battling on strong to win at Carlisle. He now heads to the Horses in Training July Sale.
SEDUCE ME came on a bundle from her first run to win her her maiden by six lengths at Ripon under a hands and heels ride from Joey Haynes. She has really come to herself in the last few weeks and had been going nicely at home so we were very hopeful she could progress a lot on her first run.
We also had a lot of placed horses over the past week over various different race tracks. We now have a busy week ahead with plenty of runners and over 20 entries in the July horse in training sale at Tattersalls.
DOUBLE AT HEAD QUARTERS!
Mon, June 27, 2016
We were delighted to get a double at racing's head quarters at Newmarket's July Course and it was a first ever double for apprentice Jordan Vaughan. Both PERCY STREET & LITTLE LADY KATIE won in good style enjoying the rain soften ground.
MOTHERS FINEST having her first run on an all-weather surface up at Newcastle made it a winning one under Ben Curtis. She is a well regarded filly with good form who has taken a couple of runs this season to get to her peak and won this race in good style. She may now step back up to Listed company.
CARBUTT'S RIDGE stormed clear of his rivals at Nottingham on Soft going, this was his first win on turf but has also won on the all weather.
SPORTY YANKEE followed up his close second with a win under Joey Haynes back at Windsor he will most likely have one more run before heading to the July Sales at Tattersalls.
BURRISHOOLE ABBEY gets of the mark in defiant style on his second ever racecourse appearance under a front running ride from stable jockey Dougie Costello. He is a lovely looking Acclamation colt who should go on from the experience.
QUIET REFLECTION STEALS THE SHOW!
Sat, June 18, 2016
Winning a group one is no easy task and winning a group one at Royal Ascot is even harder but Quiet Reflection the striking daughter of Showcasing made it all possible when taking the Commonwealth Cup under stable Jockey Dougie Costello.
Quiet Reflection taking it all in her stride in the parade ring.
She was taking on the colts and it was her first stint in a Group one but she stepped upto the mark progressing again with each run this year and is still unbeaten in 2016. It was emotional scenes after the race with both Dougie Costello & her lad Jordan Vaughan both in tears aswell as many of her owners.
The whole team here at Spigot Lodge deserve credit for all the hard work and days like these should be cherished as they do not come around that often and really make the hard work and long winters worth it. It was our first UK Group one and our first ever Royal Ascot winner so it was a real landmark day and we will be hoping there is many more to come!
