Libertarian at Epsom
The yard has been a manic place over the last couple of weeks with the run upto the Derby, photographer, journalists, radio and TV crews have flocked to get involved with Libertarian which made our first crack at the classic even more exciting! The preparation went well and we were all roaring him home on the day. We were ecstatic to have come with a late run and take second position in the final strides, it was a tactical affair and the stop start pace didn't suit our lad as he is a big rangy galloper who would have preferred a good pace the whole way. Nonetheless we just finished second in the DERBY and the excitement of things to come has kept the yard and staff buzzing. It is likely he will be supplemented for the Irish Derby but we wont know for sure until later in the month.

Not forgetting our other runners which there haven't been to many as we have had alot of non runners due to the ground drying up so fast at some courses but this suited SPYKES BAY who got back to winning ways at Carlisle under our apprentice Michael Metcalfe at his first attempt over five furlongs.

HAY DUDE ran a good race in defeat in fourth position in a hot race at Doncaster and Angels Calling was fourth at Carlisle where the ground was a little to fast and the draw didn't help her.

We now look forward to Royal Ascot starting next week.

The whole team here at Spigot Lodge are counting down the days now until our first ever runner in the Derby. Libertarian's last few days of preparation have been going well and pictured he is having a canter up the High Moor gallops which is down hill and cambered like Epsom. The amount of Media coverage has been amazing, a morning hasn't gone by without TV, Radio and journalists coming down which has given the yard an even bigger buzz. We all have our fingers firmly crossed and cant wait to see what Saturday brings.

Wow what a horse and what a race it was.  For his third run his lack of racing experience and his laid back attitude he has at home showed in the first half of the race as he remained near the back of the field but
this was a race that was far from over as LIBERTARIAN came alive in the second half and powered forward and raced on towards that finishing line coming in a WINNER.
William Buick rode Libertarian to victory for owner Mr Hubert Strecker.
The yard is so proud of this horse and long may celebrations continue.  LIBERTARIAN is loving the attention this has brought him and has turned out to be a natural for posing for the cameras.
His next target is for the Epsom Derby with a lot of people behind him.
A busy weekend with some pleasing results

Our first runners were at Lingfield on Saturday 11th May  and TEPMOKEA ran his race and gained a place in winners enclosure for 3rd place.  BOOTS & SPURS ran next and not going to out done he secured his place in winners enclose as a WINNER.

The next runner was HEY DUDE at Haydock and he also ran a really good race and brought home another WIN for us.
KRUPSKAYA ran at Thirsk later that day and she just got beaten at the post and came in second.  SPYKES BAY was also running at Thirsk and he secured 3rd place.
Our Saturday racing finished with MR MATTHEWS who had his first race at Warwick.  He ran an amazing race for his first time and was just beaten at the post and finished second.
